Reassurance, awareness and planning for the future – Katherine’s story

Before attending a Norfolk NHS Health Check, Katherine considered herself to be fairly healthy but wanted a clearer understanding of her overall health and any potential future risks. Following an injury and a period of physiotherapy, she welcomed the opportunity to receive a comprehensive assessment and gain reassurance about her current health status.

“My motivation for booking an NHS Health Check was to better understand my overall health and learn more about ways I could maintain good health in the future. I've always considered myself fairly healthy, but after experiencing an injury and going through physiotherapy, it was reassuring to have confirmation that my risk of developing certain illnesses remained low.”

Norfolk NHS Health Checks are designed to help people better understand their current health and identify any potential risks before they become more serious. Through a series of health measurements and personalised advice, participants receive information and support to help them make informed lifestyle choices, maintain good health and reduce their risk of conditions such as heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes and kidney disease.

“Like many people, I sometimes find it difficult to prepare healthy meals when life gets busy. Convenience can occasionally get in the way of making the healthiest choices, so I wanted to make sure I was still on the right track overall. Before attending my appointment, I expected a basic health update covering things like my BMI, blood pressure and blood glucose levels.”

“After the NHS Health Check, I felt reassured and more confident about my health. The appointment gave me peace of mind and reinforced the importance of continuing the healthy habits I already had in place. One of my goals moving forward is to continue rebuilding my strength with support from physiotherapy and to keep reducing the amount of processed food in my diet.”

“I also want to make sure I prioritise my health by blocking time out in my schedule for exercise, meal planning and other healthy activities. I recognise that a recurring injury could become a barrier in the future, but having a plan in place and staying focused on my goals will help me continue making positive choices.”

“My advice to anyone who is unsure about having an NHS Health Check is simple: it's useful to know about any early signs or potential health concerns while there is still time to improve them. Having that information can help you make positive changes and give you valuable reassurance about your health.”
